Although we have heard that soft drinks are not good for health if taken in the invalid quantity, still we feel like we can’t digest food without having a glass of soft drink with our food. The children nowadays are too addicted to soft drinks that they don’t eat food if you don’t serve food with a soft drink on the table. Most of you out there would agree with my point and trust me; it is the most alarming situation that we are going through. We do not deny some benefits of soft drinks, but the fact is that drinking too many soft drinks is a threat to life. Not only the children, but adults are also an addict of soft drinks, and they also feel like something is missing on the table if you don’t serve the soft drink on the table. We are here to discuss some important things about soft drinks that you have to keep in mind. Carefully read the points from where the caffeine usage in the soft drink started and how research studies proved that it is not good to use caffeine in the soft drinks.



Cola’s caffeine origins:

We all want to know about cola’s caffeine, and here we are to tell you how the coca-cola company discovered caffeine. Coca-cola extracted the caffeine from the kola nut, and this kola nut is the actual origin of caffeine that Coca Cola Company uses in its soft drinks. You will be surprised to know that the coca plant is also used to extract the caffeine and use it in the coca-cola soft drinks. This extraction process only used in the past, but now there is no extraction process to get caffeine.



Now, the fizzy soft drinks use caffeine to fulfil the deficiency of kola nut flavour in the cola drinks. A few years back, US Food and Drug Administration gave the proposal to ban the use of caffeine in making soft drinks, but many soft drinks producer companies claimed that the caffeine is used to provide the desired flavour of kola nut.

Caffeine: The Flavor Enhancer?

As the soft drink manufacturers claimed that caffeine is just a flavour enhancer and nothing else, let’s give go to this statement and learn if it is right or wrong. You will be more than astonished to hear that after the claim of soft drinks manufacturing companies, many research studies showed that the claim that caffeine imparts the flavour is wrong. In the research studies, Griffiths and Vernotica found out that test subjects noticed the increasing occurrence of caffeine at the increase of caffeine concentration. And only two subjects were capable of detecting caffeine when caffeine quantity was the same as that in the caffeinated flavour. Through this experiment, they concluded that the claim is false, and caffeine doesn’t impart the flavour as intended.



Now, the recent research also showed the same results when Keast and Riddell experimented by using the sweeteners as the control and the caffeine concentration was kept constant. The researched noticed that their test subject differentiated between the caffeinated and non-caffeinated sweeteners, but they could not differentiate between caffeinated and non-caffeinated cola beverages. They left a question in our mind that if caffeine is not present in some of our favourite soft drinks to enhance the flavour, they why is it there? Researchers are still working to find out the answer to that question, and hopefully, they will be successful in getting a satisfactory answer.



Which of the beverages have caffeine?

After knowing that some beverages have caffeine in them and some of them are non-caffeinated, let’s have a view of some beverages that we use in our normal life which have caffeine in them. If we give a justification of our caffeine intake that it wakes us up as in coffee and it boosts up our energy as in chocolate milk. We must know the right quantity of caffeine that is safe to use, and you must not exceed that amount because it can be damaging for your health. Coffee:

First of all, let’s talk about the beverage through which you kick start your day. Most of us drink coffee just after they wake up in the morning. If you ask them why they do it, they will tell you that coffee acts as the energy drink for them. And the reason behind it pouring energy in you is caffeine. Yes, you heard, right! Coffee has caffeine in it, which helps you stay active the whole day long. It feels like a good thing to stay active the whole day, but taking caffeine daily can cause health issues that you must not forget.



Soft drinks:

All the soft drinks available in the market that we use in our daily life do have caffeine. Less or more, every soft drink has some amount of caffeine in it that makes it fizzy and an ultimate energy source. Mountain dew is the only soft drink that has an extremely high amount of caffeine in it. The other soft drinks do have caffeine but not as much as mountain dew has.



Energy drinks:

We see many ads of energy drinks, and we hear them saying that these energy drinks have herbs and amino acids, but you know what, the energy in these energy drinks is just due to caffeine. A concentrated amount of caffeine is present in these energy drinks to make the ultimate energy source. The thing is that some companies conceal the fact that energy drinks have caffeine, and some companies unveil it.



It is all about how the caffeine in the soft drinks trend started and how far it has come now. Using caffeine in the soft drinks is deep routed now, and it isn’t easy to uproot it. The only way to save your health is to limit the use of caffeinated drinks and stay away from unhealthy caffeine intake! It is the only way that you can keep you healthy and fit for a long time!
